There are many vaccine woes. We have multiple Covid-19 vaccines ready to go to market. The vaccines were developed by Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca. Apparently, they have all met the acceptable number of clinical trials. The last hurdle is Federal Drug Administration approval. The United States government said it would be rolled out as early as mid-December for the frontline workers. I take that to mean all medical personnel, police, and firefighters. The media has communicated vaccine makers claim at least 90% or better efficacy for the two out of three to be distributed.
How the vaccine is dispensed is key to its usefulness. Each vaccine requires sub-zero refrigeration before use. Logistics is a major player. The vaccine will not become readily available to the general public until the second quarter of 2021. The government states that inoculation will be free of charge for every United States citizen.
We have not heard much about side effects that add to the vaccine woes of a nation under siege. When asked about side effects, they gloss over that topic stating it is similar to flu-like systems with headaches and body aches. They don’t tell you how long the side effects last. It’s downplayed like its par for the course. I’m skeptical for many reasons.
Many people who take the flu shot still get the flu. Granted, they don’t get it as bad as others who don’t get the flu shot, but they still wind up with the flu. What sense does that make? And if I am not mistaken, the last two seasons of flu vaccine were not significant because the strain was different. It was useless in preventing the flu during the previous two seasons. I guess that is where the efficacy comes into play.
Will this Covid-19 vaccine be like getting the polio vaccine? Once you get it, will you be covered for life? Remember, polio is short for poliomyelitis that is a virus that attacks your central nervous system. The chances of contracting polio are non-existent today. I understand that it should create antibodies so that your immune system will protect you from contracting the virus. But at the end of the day, it was developed so fast that we do not know if it will function in this manner for an extended period of time.
Of course, it was designed to behave that way, but this adds to the vaccine woes because only time will tell. I believe that is the only reason it will not be mandatory because scientists can only speculate. The United Kingdom has approved Pfizer’s vaccine and are beginning to roll it out. The United States has many challenges with delivery and acceptance by the general public. Will you take the vaccine?
