Live Streaming is not for the Weak

Live Streaming is not for the Weak show Intro screenWe are all trying to carve out a way to be relevant. I’m always game to try a platform about which I know nothing. My new venture is to establish a presence on the Twitch platform. I recognize that it’s primarily for gamers. However, there are some niche creators on the platform. The multitude of concentration necessary to become a creator and gain a foothold is crazy. Let me tell you, live streaming is not for the weak. Here is how my journey is going thus far.

What I’ve Tried

I try to create sensible content on TikTok, but I’m not making much progress. People don’t believe me when I say that I’m an introvert. Do I have a following? Yes, of course I do, but not for the reason that I started. My content should focus on my writing and publishing. However, it has morphed into my fitness efforts to get in shape. I have enough of a following to be live, but I never know what to say because I don’t want to come across as stiff and rehearsed. Hence, the main reason why live streaming is not for the weak.

Given the numerous legal obstacles TikTok presents, I’ve decided to start again on the Twitch live streaming platform. It’s an application that can be used on either mobile devices or computers. There are challenges on this platform for anyone unfamiliar with how to engage correctly. Thankfully, I’m a risk taker who happens to be creative, so I’ve ventured in to make my mark.

Live Stream Ease

Starting a live stream directly from my mobile device works fine. It simply fails to hold the viewers’ attention. The idea is to welcome people with a well-designed background, engaging effects to acknowledge those who enter, and to encourage interaction when possible, while also being entertaining with your content. My issue is that I get bored quickly, so I can’t stick with one content subject. On Twitch, I run three (3) different types of live streams.

My content streams include creating awareness about my book catalog, designing live floral arrangements, and providing daily sports betting picks. You might ask what these topics have in common, aside from the fact that they are related to me? Each allows me to tell a story about the who, what, where, and why. I also start with the why for every segment that I record.

It’s a balancing act to grow your following while keeping your content fresh. My live streams are done from my computer through OBS. It is a popular open broadcast system model that’s been around for a while. Many use Stream Labs, which I’ve tried with little success. Live streaming is not for the weak. After one month, I am getting the hang of it and hope to find new readers, sports enthusiasts, and creatives who share my interests.
