Snowlanta – Embracing a Snowstorm

It’s the first big snow in Atlanta, Georgia, in ten years. The media gave the residents of the metro Atlanta area a fair warning of the possibility of inches of snow. Yes, not feet, but inches of the frozen flakes. The governor declared a state of emergency because metro Atlanta has yet to find the necessary equipment and resources to deal with snow. For one day only, Atlanta, Georgia, will be known in 2025 as Snowlanta, and the metro area will put on a big show for all the world to see. Here are a few ways that residents took full advantage of being Snowlanta while embracing a snowstorm.

Skiing, Sledding, Tubing

Watching the locals take over the park was one of my favorite things to witness throughout the day. The people were skiing, sledding, and tubing down the hilly parts of Piedmont Park in Atlanta, Georgia. Everyone was having a great time. I don’t know how many folks could get to the park, but they showed up and showed out. Snowlanta embracing a snowstorm was hitting on all levels.

We Outside

Frolicking became a big deal during the 2025 snowstorm. Children of all ages walked, ran, skipped, pranced, and made snow angels. It didn’t matter whether you were a native of Atlanta, Georgia, or a transplant. Everyone enjoyed nature’s bounty. At first sight, the animals were suspect about the white powdery flakes but quickly expressed the same enthusiasm as the humans.

Building Snow Things

Playing in the storm was epic for many. Discovering the talent of the locals made my heart sing. Sure, plenty of snow was built within the limitations of the 3 -4 inches of snow provided by the heavens. Artists, big and small, made masterpieces in short order. Some used their bodies to make impressions, and others used their feet for intricate drawings. Many enlisted the help of shovels and other tools to sculpt creations.

Snowlanta enbracing a snowstorm gave everyone watching a chance to decompress and smile. We are living through chaotic times, and the snowstorm of 2025 provided us with a distraction that was much needed. Of course, things end, and it’s back to business as usual just 24 hours later.

Allow me to take this time to express our concern for the folks in southern California whose lives have been disrupted due to wildfires. We keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
