The day was filled with clear skies and sunshine. Good times and barbecues were on the agenda for many. Others of us had plans too. Some participated in the Peachtree Road Race. I spoke with folks whose travel plans took them abroad. It’s become a what you make of it type of holiday. Here is how I spent Independence Day.
How I Spent Independence Day Activities
The first thing I did was go on my morning trail walk. It was already nearly 80 degrees at 8:00 a.m. As a dedicated walker, the fact that it was a holiday did not deter me from holding myself accountable. I completed a six-mile trek in a little over an hour.
The next thing on my agenda was to cook a holiday meal. It was typical for the occasion. I made some barbecue ribs, corn on the cob, and stuffed baked potatoes. I stuffed the potatoes with chives, cheese, butter, and sour cream. It was just enough to satisfy the palate without being over the top, so we didn’t have to eat it for days on end. The grandchildren enjoyed it.
Reading is an activity that I do every day, and so finishing two books made it onto my list. I’ve become a fan of the author Stuart Woods. His storylines keep me coming back for more. Completing two books in a day is a significant achievement for me, as I’m a little behind on my yearly reading challenge goal.
Finally, my neighborhood is big on fireworks displays, so all I had to do was go outside on my patio. It began as soon as nightfall ensued. The sky was smoky with vibrant colors exploding in what became a painting in the sky. It was a better arrangement than last year.
As I mentioned earlier, this is how I spent my Independence Day. I wouldn’t change a thing about the day. I hope that you had a splendid time.
