I was laid off from my job in April 2025. It had nothing to do with my job performance. The company went out of business. With the current state of the government, it has been challenging to ascertain a new position. After submitting more than 300 applications for roles I’m over- and under-qualified for, I’ve concluded that having a solid skill set and being amiable aren’t enough. There is job market frustration in 2025 that has become insurmountable.
Reason for Job Market Frustration in 2025
At first, I was thinking, OK, ageism is going to play a part because I am a woman of a certain age. Then I figured my wage level was above what companies would be willing to pay for a seasoned professional. Now, I just think that corporate America is looking for young people to do more for less. Also, people in the position to hire are trying to protect their own interests and will not go out of their way to hire someone who may be able to replace them. In six months, I have applied for more than 562 jobs. After five initial interviews and three second-round interviews, just to realize in the last two weeks, I’m not moving forward. I just started receiving rejection emails for jobs that I applied for several months ago.
It’s very disheartening to know that you cannot get a decent job in today’s market. You have to do so many other things to make ends meet. Of course, I have my catalog that still sells consistently. However, it’s not a singular thing that you can do with the cost of living today. You need multiple income streams to live comfortably; otherwise, you are constantly fighting just to survive. It’s sad. Now, I know I am better off than I sound, but not by much.
The job market is fictitious. Corporations are constantly laying off folks left and right. Even the federal government is getting into the act by furloughing folks. As well as forcing them to work without wages. I’ve seen several news pieces about air traffic controllers having to jump into the gig economy to make ends meet. Of course, that cuts into the income of tried-and-true gig workers. These events have added to the job market frustration in 2025.
