Focus Fitness Time

You don’t have to wait until a medical doctor tells you that you need to move your body to make it last longer. We should all know by now that walking is statistically proven to be the best low-impact exercise for cardiovascular health. Do you feel like you will never be as agile as you were in your youth? I know that I was beginning to feel that way. When you sit behind a desk every day, most days for more than eight hours, you’ve got to find a way to break the sedentary lifestyle pattern. I developed a schedule of focus fitness time to stay committed to my walking journey.

The essential equipment required for starting a walking regimen is simple. You just need the great outdoors. I documented a self-imposed walking challenge back in November 2024. The mission was to complete 10,000+ steps daily and record my progress despite the weather conditions. It was challenging, but I got through it. I measured my progress by the length of time, distance of the walk, and number of total steps. At the end of the self-imposed challenge, I walked over 330,000 steps, dropped six pounds, and shrunk seven inches. With the winter months in full swing, move the walking regimen indoors. Of course, you can walk in place, walk in circles around your home, or invest in a piece of equipment. I chose to invest in a walking pad. It doesn’t take up much space and is easy to store under a bed or in a corner. The walking pad is lightweight and easy to maneuver around your home. Here is where I instituted guidelines to measure success.

Four Pillars for Focus Fitness Time – My Walking Journey

  • Time:  I set a minimum of forty-five to fifty-five minutes to complete my session
  • Distance:  I aim to complete two to three miles distance within my time limit
  • Interval Speed:  I walk 2.5 miles per hour on the walking pad, increasing the speed to 2.9 miles every 5 minutes. The duration will last about three minutes, and then I will return to the baseline of 2.5 miles per hour.
  • Steps: By the end of the session, my total steps during the focus fitness time should total 8500 – 9500 steps

As we approach the end of the first month of 2025, I can say that my method of focus fitness time is working for me. To date, I have lost another 6.5 pounds and 2 inches. These are the kind of results that keep me motivated to make sure that I move each and every day. I will continue walking towards the future version of myself.
