Spring has Sprung

The temperature is consistently warmer, giving off the beginning of a new season. Trees are in bloom. Daylight savings time has the sun setting later into the evening each week. It’s time to clean off the deck and plan the patio gardens. These are all signs that we can put away the coats and remove the sweaters. Here are a few other indicators that Spring has sprung.

We are outside every chance we get to experience the sunshine and fresh air.  I walk miles each day. The ability to do it unencumbered is a beautiful and freeing experience. Parks are filling with folks in the community. People, in general, are happier outdoors in the springtime. It’s a sure sign that Spring has sprung.

The bees are buzzing around, looking to pollenate the vegetation that will become breathtaking sights to see in a few months. As the temperatures continue to rise, caterpillars in their cocoons grow into butterflies. By the time we hit early May, we will see the magnificent bounty that nature will unfold. The flush of colors, sweet scents, and variety of every kind of wildflower, butterfly bush, and rose will enhance the season.

It’s nearly time to harvest melons, berries, and other ripening fruits as we enter the season. I am a fan of cherries and watermelon. While we can find these items during winter, they are never quite as good when out of season. Once I see these particular delights plentiful in the grocery store, it’s a definite sign that Spring has sprung.

Everything mentioned above relates to new beginnings. Spring is not my favorite season, but it is always welcome and appreciated. I’ve already started planning my patio garden together. I’m seeding as we speak. With an array of gladiolas, roses, and butterfly bushes, I hope to enjoy all the colors and aromas my planting selection will reveal.
